Wedding Food Trends for 2018

Wedding Food Trends for 2018

Wedding season is upon us, and wedding food has come a long way from a chicken dinner and heavy fruit cake for dessert. The Knot survey, which spoke to nearly 13,000 US couples in 2017, discovered that on average couples are happy to spend upwards of $70 per head on catering alone with some couples reporting over $130 per head! 2018 doesn’t see things slowing either. More couples are looking to wow their guests with catering selections. Here at Paul Evans Catering, we have collected a few trends we expect to see more of when it comes to wedding food in 2018.

Keep it local.

It’s not just restaurants interested in sourcing their ingredients from local sources. Couples are actively looking to source locally. Couples want to support local businesses and really showcase the delights of what is around them by choosing food which is in season and nearby. Anticipate the story of food sourcing to be worked into the menu description, too. Giving guests a better understanding of where their food has come is something we will see more of this year.

Make it personal.

Weddings are all about two people coming together. And adding the details to make it more personal has moved beyond the decorations. In 2018 couples are looking to catering suppliers to help tell their story. From food inspired by the couple’s heritage or inspiration being taken from holidays and the proposal, the standard menus are out, and bespoke, beautiful, personalized food is in.

Sit down next to me.

While buffets have been the catering style of choice in recent years, there is a move back to sit-down waiter service for the wedding meal. Sitting together to enjoy a meal is something which some families only get during the holidays and special occasions. But don’t let this trend fool you into thinking couples are back to old style menus. Couples are opting for funky and fresh food to deliver to guests, with plates looking as delicate as the rest of the wedding.

Let them eat cake.

Not everyone is a dessert person. And 2018 trends are really looking to give guests something different. More couples are opting for a variety of miniature desserts to be chosen from. Rather than the traditional slice of wedding cake (don’t worry, the wedding cake hasn’t been completely replaced!) Miniature cakes, cupcakes, desserts and petit fours are being served up as after dinner delights. Providing more options and an opportunity to display some gorgeous looking desserts.
